The Role of Human Intelligence vs AI-Only Coaching

AI is moving fast.

From financial services to healthcare, bots and agents are being deployed to answer questions, manage customer support, and even coach people through sensitive health journeys.

Most recently, Eucalyptus-owned Juniper revealed its AI chatbot, June, which now handles almost 99% of user conversations. It’s a striking example of how technology can scale, streamline, and free up professionals for more complex cases.

But in health and wellbeing, there’s a critical question we can’t ignore: where does AI end, and where does human intelligence begin?

Why Human Intelligence® Matters

At Anni, our philosophy is simple: AI can support, but it should never replace the human connection at the heart of health and wellbeing.

We call this approach Human Intelligence®. It’s the understanding that the best outcomes come when technology empowers people, not substitutes for them.

“AI is brilliant at speed, pattern recognition, and scaling access. But it cannot replace the empathy, nuance, and lived experience that only a human advisor brings to the table. At Anni, we believe the future of care is not AI versus humans. It’s AI with humans.”

Diranne Lee-Renwick, Founder & CEO, Anni

The Limits of AI-Only Coaching

AI coaching models, like Juniper’s June, show what’s possible when bots are trained on vetted knowledge bases and given clear boundaries. These systems can answer thousands of straightforward questions: How much protein do I need today? or What happens if I skip a dose?, and do it consistently.

But as even Juniper’s team acknowledges, AI in healthcare must be carefully managed. Weight management, skin health, hormone care; are not just clinical challenges, they intersect with mental health, relationships, and self-esteem. Generic, one-size-fits-all advice risks overlooking the nuance that makes each person unique.

This is not about being anti-AI. At Anni, we embrace AI as a powerful assistant, but we also know its limits. An AI agent can nudge you toward a habit; only a human can recognise the sigh in your voice that says something else is going on.

A Smarter Future for Wellbeing

We’re inspired to see companies experiment with AI to expand access to care, but we believe the next wave of healthcare innovation won’t be AI-only solutions. It will be hybrid models  with technology that connects, scales, and supports, while keeping people at the centre.

That’s the future Anni is building. Human-first, tech-powered, and available anywhere, anytime.

That’s Human Intelligence®
